Drift Privacy Policy
Last updated: January 27, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Drift ("we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, shares, and protects your information when you use the Drift mobile application and related services (the "App"). By using the App, you agree to the practices described below.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account and Profile Information
When you create an account or complete onboarding, we collect:
- Identity: Name, email address, and (if you use Apple Sign In) your Apple ID–associated identity.
- Profile: Profile photo (avatar), additional photos, bio, birthday, age, location (city/region or text you provide), lifestyle and travel preferences (e.g., van life, RV life, digital nomad), travel pace, next destination, travel dates, and interests.
- Discovery and dating preferences: Whether you are looking for friends, dating, or both; orientation; preferred age range and distance; prompt answers and other optional prompts you choose to answer.
- Onboarding and preferences: Completion of onboarding, invite-code redemption status, and similar in-app state.
1.2 Content You Create
- Messages: Text and images you send in direct messages and in activity or event group chats.
- Activities: Titles, descriptions, locations (including optional "exact" locations revealed after joining), images, dates, and privacy settings when you create or join activities.
- Community: Posts, events, help requests, replies, likes, and images you publish in the community feed or event/help sections, plus event attendance and related group chats.
- Van Builder: Content you post in builder channels, including images and text.
1.3 Social and Connection Data
- Friends: Friend requests you send or accept, and friend connection status (including when you block someone, which we treat as "blocked" status).
- Discovery / matching: Swipes (likes and passes), mutual matches, and related engagement used to run the discovery and matching features.
1.4 Location Data
- Provided by you: Location text (e.g., city, region) you enter in your profile, travel schedule, activities, or events.
- Device location: If you grant permission, we may use your device's location (e.g., via "when in use" access) to support features such as the map, nearby events, discovery distance, and campground search. You can revoke location access in your device settings at any time.
1.5 Verification and Safety
- Face verification: If you use identity verification, we collect a selfie taken in the App. This may be processed by a third-party verification service to compare it to your profile photo and to detect fraud or spoofing. We use it to support account verification and safety.
- Camera: We request camera access only to capture the selfie used for identity verification, as described in the in-app permission text.
1.6 Payments and Subscriptions
Drift Pro: Subscriptions ("Drift Pro") are processed through the Apple App Store and our subscription provider (RevenueCat). We receive information necessary to provide your subscription (e.g., entitlement status, product identifiers). We do not store your full payment card details; payment is handled by Apple.
1.7 Invite System
If the App uses an invite-only or referral system, we collect and use invite codes you generate or redeem, and link them to your account to enforce invite rules and prevent abuse.
1.8 Device and Technical Information
- Push notifications: We use Firebase Cloud Messaging (and Apple Push Notification service) to send push notifications. This involves device tokens and related technical data needed to deliver messages (e.g., new matches, messages, activity reminders).
- Usage and diagnostics: We may collect app version, device type, OS version, and similar technical data to operate, secure, and improve the App.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information above to:
- Create and manage your account and profile, and personalize your experience.
- Run discovery, matching, friends, and community features (e.g., showing your profile to others per your preferences, matching you with others, surfacing events and activities).
- Enable messaging, group chats, and event/activity coordination.
- Provide campground search and availability via our campground data provider (Campflare).
- Facilitate identity verification and safety (e.g., block lists, verification status).
- Process and support Drift Pro subscriptions and entitlements.
- Send push notifications (with your consent where required).
- Enforce invite/referral rules and prevent fraud or abuse.
- Comply with law, protect rights and safety, and improve the App (including analytics and troubleshooting).
3. How We Share Your Information
3.1 Within the App
Your profile, posts, events, activities, and other content you make visible (e.g., "public" or "friends") are shared with other users according to the privacy settings you choose (e.g., public, friends-only, or private events/activities).
3.2 Service Providers
We share data with trusted service providers who help us run the App, under contracts that limit their use to providing services to us:
- Supabase: Hosting, database, authentication, storage (e.g., avatars, photos, activity/event images, message images), and real-time features. Data may be stored in regions used by Supabase.
- RevenueCat: Subscription management and entitlement checks for Drift Pro.
- Firebase (Google): Push notification delivery (device tokens and message metadata).
- Campflare: Campground search and availability; we may send search parameters (e.g., location, dates) to return results.
- Verification provider: If you use face verification, we send your selfie (and, where applicable, profile photo) to our verification service provider to perform the check.
- Apple: When you use Apple Sign In, we receive an identifier and (if you choose) your name and email from Apple per their terms and privacy practices.
3.3 Legal and Safety
We may disclose your information when we believe in good faith it is necessary to: (a) comply with law or legal process; (b) enforce our terms; (c) protect the rights, property, or safety of Drift, our users, or others; or (d) investigate fraud or abuse.
3.4 No Sale of Personal Data
We do not sell your personal information.
4. Data Retention and Deletion
- We retain your data for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the App, resolve disputes, and comply with law.
- If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data in line with our internal retention schedule and legal obligations. Some data (e.g., in backups or where we must retain it for law) may be kept for a limited time before deletion.
- You can request account deletion and other privacy choices through the App or by contacting us (see Section 9).
5. Security
We use industry-standard measures (including encryption, access controls, and secure infrastructure) to protect your data. No system is completely secure; you use the App at your own risk, and we encourage strong passwords and careful sharing of sensitive information.
6. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data (many fields can be updated in profile and settings).
- Delete your account and associated data (subject to lawful retention).
- Export your data in a portable format, where required by law.
- Opt out of certain uses (e.g., marketing emails, or push notifications via device settings).
- Object or restrict processing in some jurisdictions (e.g., under GDPR).
To exercise these rights, use in-app settings where available, or contact us at the address in Section 9. We will respond within the time required by applicable law. If you are in the EEA/UK, you may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
7. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe we have received information from a minor, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
8. International Transfers
Your information may be processed and stored in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. If you are outside these countries, your data may be transferred to them. We rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses or other mechanisms permitted by law) where required.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version in the App and/or on our website and update the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. For material changes, we may provide additional notice (e.g., in-app or by email) where required by law.
